“It’s our first year as an exhibitor and we’ve met a lot of new people from all over world. Unlike other shows, I want to talk to everyone here. It’s very refreshing”

Rounds 5 and 6: Donington Park
First podium of the season for Robinson

Mike Robinson claimed his first ELF Renault Clio Cup podium finish at Donington Park, Leicestershire, on Sunday, 4 May 2008.

Finishing second in the first race, he narrowly missed out on a podium finish in race two to leave him fifth in the championship standings.

Beginning round six on row three of the grid, Robinson got away cleanly to move up to fifth by the end of the opening lap. Engine problems ended the race for Derek Pierce in second position, allowing Robinson to move up to fourth.

The 25-year-old sales director said, “I was gutted to just miss out on the podium in round five, so to get up here for round six is fantastic. I set myself a target of finishing in the top-five this weekend and did it in both races.”

Rounds 3 and 4: Rockingham
Robinson finishes just four seconds behind race winner

Mike Robinson started this season’s second Clio Cup seventh and fifth on the grid. After a poor start in the first race at Rockingham, Northamptonshire, on 12 and 13 April 2008, the ex-Caterham driver finished a disappointing 18th.

The second race started much better for Robinson, who lost only two places to finish seventh, just four seconds behind the winner.

Robinson said, “I’m pleased with how I qualified this weekend, but unfortunately I was in the wrong place at the wrong time in the first couple of corners in the first race.”

After four rounds of the 2008 season, Robinson is ninth overall in the championship.

Rounds 1 and 2: Brands Hatch

Professional MotorSport World Expo-backed racer Mike Robinson impressed on his Clio Cup debut at Brands Hatch on 29 and 30 March 2008.

The former Caterham driver – racing in a front-wheel-drive car for the first time – qualified well and made the most of the tricky damp conditions to come home in 11th place. He then demonstrated his talent by piloting the car into ninth place in the second race of the weekend.

Robinson said, “I was confident I could get into the top 10 because I know the track well as I’ve raced at Brands Hatch many times in my Caterham. I’m pleased with both my results, but hope to finish higher up the field at Rockingham, as I will know the car even better.”
