LIVE NEWS DAY 1: Customizable seat debuted
Motordrive Seats

Motordrive (Booth 5055) is using PMW Expo to debut its modular concept seat, the MD30. The company makes all its seats to measure using a foam cover, but is taking a different approach with the MD30, for which it is aiming to obtain homologation in 2020.

Darren Meadows, managing director of Motordrive, explained how the concept can make the process of fitting the seat to the driver quicker: “Most seats are a hard shell with a cover on it, but with the MD30, we make a shell and then add pads of different shapes and sizes so you can have different padding for different sizes of people. We fit all of our seats to our customers; with the new seat, we can have a more general shell that people can pad according to what they need rather than having to come in for a fitting.”

The ergonomic design of the MD30 incorporates new features to ensure maximum safety and comfort. These enhancements include lumbar support to protect the spine against high-compression-impact accidents, improved head and neck ergonomics to work with HANS systems, and a lower seat base, which allows more leg movement when used with Motordrive’s custom-fit base bolsters.

The company is also showcasing its MD10 and MD20 four-point and six-point seats, which are FIA 8862-2009 homologated. “We’re the only manufacturer in the world that does four-point and six-point 8862-homologated seats. We also have the lightest homologation for our six-point seat, at 7kg,” Meadows stressed.
