PMW EXPO 2008 GINETTA G50: RACE NEWS
Rounds 5 and 6: Knockhill, Fife
Richards wins two more trophies at Knockhill

Fresh from his success in the Ginetta G50 at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, on 5 and 6 April 2008, Clive Richards had high hopes for his trip to Knockhill, Fife, the following week. Despite disappointing qualifying results that saw him start the first race in eighth position on the grid, he fought his way up the field from the first corner to end another race in third place.

Our G50 newcomer started the second race sixth on the grid, determined to finish on the podium. Having spent most of the race in second position, Richards saw the gap between himself and third-place driver Frank Wrathall close when the safety car came out due to poor weather conditions. The four-time Caterham champion lost out and ended another tight race in third position.

Richards said, “I was disappointed with qualifying – unfortunately, we used the wrong tires for the weather conditions. However, I was very pleased with the race as I made up a lot of time. I was catching Nigel Moore [race winner] near the end, and got the fastest lap.”

Rounds 3 and 4: Cadwell Park
First podium of the year for Richards

The third and fourth rounds of the Ginetta G50 Championship were held at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, on 5 and 6 April 2008, and our very own Professional MotorSport World Expo driver Clive Richards qualified on the second row of the grid.

After a good start and defending throughout most of the race, the ex-Caterham champion lost third place to Paul O’Neill, who muscled down the inside of Richards just five corners from the checkered flag.

The outcome of the second race was very much influenced by the weather, with a damp track and even the threat of snow making setup choices critical. Ultimately, Richards excelled in the conditions, maintaining a consistent, rapid pace to come home third, celebrating with his fist in the air.

A delighted Richards said, “That was one of the toughest races I’ve ever competed in. Cars were falling off the track all over the place – it was hard enough not to spin off myself, let alone avoid them. Third place this weekend demonstrates that we’re really starting to get to grips with this new car.”
