Fluid dynamics of the SPINTRIC air/oil separator
A R E Dry Sump Systems

A R E Dry Sump Systems will be showcasing its SPINTRIC air/oil separator, used in dry sump systems worldwide, as well as introducing its new CNC machined aerospace A356 T6 cast dry sump oil tank.

The new SPINTRIC air/oil separator now has six different versions for all flow rates and racing engines. There are literally hundreds of air/oil separators available, however A R E Dry Sump says that 95% of them are ‘vented air devices’, made for keeping the oil out of atmospheric or engine PCV systems. Wet sump engines need to be vented, and these are fine, if not a good idea.

However, the SPINTRIC is not in this category. The SPINTRIC is designed to help eliminate the air from the scavenge return oil to the tank. The nature of the drysump system is to ‘over scavenge’ the engine, sending oil and air back to the oil tank or reservoir. The SPINTRIC’s job is to send de-aerated oil back to be used again, sometimes within seconds. The air is then sent back to the top of the tank, where it can be then vented back into the atmosphere. Both devices separate air from oil, but in different dynamics, function and end results.

A R E dry sump systems have been used in winning race cars from Indy 500, LeMans, GT2 and GT3, Formula Ford, and all popular sports cars.
