LIVE NEWS DAY 2: West Surrey Racing scoops consecutive European Race Series Team title at the Professional MotorSport World Expo Awards

The West Surrey Racing (WSR) BTCC team has once again been crowned the European Race Series Team of the Year at the annual Professional MotorSport World Expo Awards, becoming the first team to successfully defend this award.

WSR topped the award category following a highly successful season, taking the 2019 British Touring Car Championship drivers’ title and manufacturer’s title, and ensuring that the team’s BTCC trophy haul hit 11 in six just seasons.

In the Motorsport Facility of the Year award, The Bend Motorsport Park came out on top, beating the likes of Audi Motorsport Millbrook and Prodrive. Seen as one of the most significant developments in modern Australian motorsport history, the state-of-the-art facility has continued to add components for different motorsport series and applications in 2019.

The Professional MotorSport World Expo event in Cologne, Germany, also saw aero solutions provider AirShaper claim the Motorsport Technology of the Year award, beating the likes of Zircotec and Pipo Moteurs.

The automated cloud platform from AirShaper enables teams – both large and small – to upload a 3D model of their car and then analyze the aerodynamics, opening up aero analysis to a wider set of teams.

Capping a successful evening for WSR, the team’s BMW 330i M Sport won the International Race Car of the Year award after a title-winning first season in the British Touring Car Championship.

In the individual awards, Alejandro Agag triumphed in the Outstanding Contribution of the Year category. Responsible for increasing Formula 1’s foothold in Spain, Agag is now synonymous with the continuous rise of Formula E.

And picking up the final award of the evening was Robert Wilson, who won the UK Young Rally Driver of the Year. Wilson, who is on the verge of claiming the Formula 1000 Junior Rally Championship, was commended for his commitment to continuous learning and taking on advice in order to develop as a driver.
